Wham!’s “Last Christmas” is a timeless tune that has been covered by many artists and Goldpark is the latest to do it. They made it their own by adding an indie-rock twist to the famous pop sound. There is a synth sound that starts off the song and continues faintly throughout. While the vocals in the original song are cheery, Goldpark takes a more laid back approach. The overall sound is more cool and groovy.
For those who are not huge fans of Christmas music, this spin on the holiday classic is a great middle ground.
The song remains warm and inviting, but Goldpark’s rendition is more calming and brings out the sorrow of the song more than the original. Wham!’s version makes listeners want to dance around; Goldpark’s version is more of a gentle sway—which is perfect if you’re not much of a dancer.
